Reconvan®

Description

An unflavoured liquid consisting of protein (hydrolysed wheat protein, milk protein and L-arginine), fat (safflower, linseed, MCT and fish oils), carbohydrate, vitamins, minerals and trace elements.
 

Contra-indications

  • Not for parenteral use.
  • Not suitable where enteral nutrition is not permitted.
  • Not suitable for patients with gluten sensitive enteropathy.
  • Not suitable for infants under on year of age.
 

Precautions

  • Should only be used under medical supervision.
  • Use with caution in children under 5 years.
 

Indications for use

The indications for Reconvan® have been adapted according to the latest guidelines1:

Reconvan® is intended for the dietary management of patients with increased risk of infection, such as post-operative, post-traumatic - in particular burns - or severely malnourished patients - not including the critically ill with severe SIRS (Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome) or sepsis.

Dosage

Dosage should be calculated by a clinician or dietitian according to individual requirements. As a guide:

 

  • For complete nutrition:
    3 x 500ml provides 1500kcal and 82.5g protein and meets the average adult recommended daily requirements for vitamins, minerals and trace-elements.
  • For tube feeding:
    It is recommended that the full dosage of Reconvan® is introduced gradually over 2–3 days.
 

Storage

  • Store in a cool place, do not store above 25°C.
  • Once opened, can be stored for up to 24 hours in a refrigerator.
 

Shelf life

  • 12 months from date of manufacture.
